Spring break in Cancún runs roughly from early February through late April, but the peak intensity concentrates in March, tied to US college spring break schedules, which are staggered across different weeks by different universities. The single busiest stretch is usually the second and third weeks of March.
What actually changes
The northern Hotel Zone clubs and beach clubs near Punta Cancún see dramatically increased crowds, extended pool parties, and a younger, party-focused atmosphere. Hotel prices in the Hotel Zone rise noticeably during peak weeks. Beaches and public spaces get busier across the board, not just at the clubs specifically.
If you're going for spring break
Book accommodation well in advance — good rooms at party-adjacent hotels sell out months ahead. Confirm your hotel's actual policy and atmosphere before booking; some properties lean hard into the scene while others (even in the same area) maintain a calmer profile. Basic safety practices matter more during this period: watch your drink, stay with your group, and use official transport rather than improvising late at night.
If you're trying to avoid it
Three options: travel outside February–April entirely (November, December, or May onward are your best bets), stay downtown or on Isla Mujeres rather than the Hotel Zone, or specifically book a resort known for a quieter, often adults-only or family-oriented profile — these exist even in March and are largely insulated from the party scene happening elsewhere on the strip. Ask directly when booking, since generic marketing photos don't reveal a property's actual March atmosphere.
