Cancún weather is warm year-round — temperatures rarely drop below 20°C (68°F) even at the coolest time of year — but the difference between seasons matters for planning: it affects rain, crowds, prices, and the chance of a hurricane disrupting your trip.

The dry season (November to April)
The classic time to visit — lower humidity, minimal rain, and the most reliably calm water. Also the most expensive and busiest period. March especially sees spring break crowds from North America that significantly change the atmosphere in the Hotel Zone.
The wet season (May to October)
Short, heavy afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain — mornings are often clear and sunny. The real consideration is hurricane season (June 1–November 30), with peak risk from August through October. Read our hurricane season guide before booking in these months.
Cancún temperature in January and December
These two months get searched heavily because they're the most common holiday travel times. Both are excellent for weather — expect highs around 27–28°C (80–82°F), little to no rain, and calm seas. The trade-off is that Christmas week and New Year are among the most expensive times to book; January after the holiday rush settles down is genuinely one of the best value combinations of good weather and lower prices.
The sargassum factor

💡 Best overall months
Late November and early April offer the best balance of good weather, lower crowds, and prices that haven't hit peak-season levels. If you must travel in school holidays, January (after the first week) and February are your best bets for solid weather without March spring-break pricing.
