Cancún is one of the most popular destination wedding locations in the world for straightforward reasons: reliable weather for most of the year, direct flights from major North American and European hubs, and resorts that have built entire departments around running weddings smoothly.

How resort wedding packages work

Most large Hotel Zone resorts offer tiered wedding packages — a free or low-cost basic package (often included when a minimum number of room-nights are booked by guests) up through elaborate paid packages with private receptions, photography, and premium decor. The free/included packages are usually fine for a small, simple ceremony; anything more elaborate is effectively an upsell menu.

What to check before booking a venue

  • Guest room block requirements — many free packages require your guests to book a minimum number of room-nights at the resort. Understand the requirement before promising a "free" wedding.
  • Legal marriage requirements — Mexico requires blood tests and specific paperwork with translated/apostilled documents for a legally binding marriage; many couples opt to legally marry at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Cancún instead, which is simpler logistically.

Best time to plan a Cancún wedding

The dry season (November–April) is by far the most popular and reliable window — outside hurricane season, with the best odds of calm weather. December and Valentine's week are especially popular and require booking 9–12 months ahead for good venues and dates. May and June offer a shoulder-season trade-off: slightly higher rain risk, meaningfully lower costs and crowds.

Cost expectations

Costs vary enormously by resort tier and package complexity — from essentially free symbolic ceremonies bundled into a room booking, up to costs comparable with a full wedding at home for elaborate private events. Get itemized quotes from at least two or three properties before committing; "all-inclusive wedding" pricing structures differ significantly between resorts even at similar star ratings.
